Exotic Animals As Pets “There are more tigers kept as pets in the United States than roam free in the wild”(CNN). Keeping these large cats as pets has become a large business in which tiger and lion cubs are brought to the United States to be held by the public so that they can get a picture with these exotic animals.Once the cubs reach twelve weeks old they are sold to anyone who wants them. “These animals are then kept in confined cages in backyards, garages and basements because the purchasers are not able to properly care for them”(One Green Planet). Not being able to care for these large cats is a public safety hazard and is not safe for the animal, but proper care and handling can lead to a happy and healthy tiger or lion. Although an adorable baby tiger or lion may seem like a great investment, it is can cause a considerate amount of hazard to the public. The owners of large cats must not realize that when their precious cub grows old enough it will get bored of sitting in a small cage all day, being hand fed meat and will want to get out and actually hunt for its meal.
