Working hard, going to college and graduating is not be enough anymore. Good Americans aren’t able to just enter the workforce nowadays. Jobs have been moved overseas to other countries. Even people with current jobs are at risk of being laid off. Big companies use this business strategy to avoid paying certain taxes. Although some companies will argue that it’s their right, America needs to realize what is happening around us. The fact of the matter is jobs are leaving the U.S. and the government should install an exit tax to prevent losing more American jobs and weakening the economy. There will be contradictions to the proposal of an exit tax and that’s fair. People have rights that allow them to be able to move their companies to other countries. For example, moving a computer managing job over to India will be cheaper than an American worker doing the same job. IBM is rather fond of this and lays off many U.S. workers in order to make room for the overseas employees. They claim that if Americans want to keep their job, the can just move to India, no biggie, right? (McDougall). A company called Premium Foods renamed their business and moved to Canada so that they could avoid paying America’s income tax by changing into something called an income trust where the owner can sell out for a high multiple of pretax income (Vardi & EBSCOhost). Once again, this demonstrates how people will move overseas and have little regard to how this will impact the country as a whole. Creating this exit tax will establish the safety of American jobs. Overall an exit tax is the best way to ensure a thriving community. New jobs will be created and college graduates won’t have to battle with so many people over the same internship.
