The story begins with Cradeau’s mother dying. But Cradeau would go about his business almost as nothing changed. He went to the funeral and vigil but was still off key. He slept during her vigil and also started a relationship while going to see a comedy just following her burial. This relates to the other texts in the fact that all of these characters are extremists with having no care for anyone but themselves. Cradeau continues his relationship with the same feelings he had towards his mother, which was none. He tells the woman it doesn't matter if he loves her and nothing really matters not even marriage. But he helps a few of his neighbors mainly Raymond. Raymond and him attended and sort of party and this party partook on the beach. Raymond’s ex-girlfriend was dating an Arab man who had cut him with a knife on the beach. Cradeau went back to where the Arab was and once the Arab had pulled his knife and moved a little Cradeau fired a single shot at him, paused and proceeded to fire three more. Once Cradeau got to court he had only insane excuses for as to why he killed the man, blaming the sun was one of them. Once the court had seen he had no remorse for anything he had done and not even feelings for his mother's death, they gave him the death penalty. When his life was coming to an end all he wanted was for there to be a ton of people to observe his death and for them to show hatred towards him.
