PROFESSIONALISM IN NURSING
Choosing the nursing profession as a career path is not only an honor, but a commitment in exhibiting compassion and respect to others. Factors such as personal traits, economic rankings and nature of the ailment are therefore inconsequential in the practice. A nurse might not be personally comfortable with caring for an alcoholic. However, as a nurse, you must be ethically obliged to provide the upmost, compassionate care possible. With the advancement of technology and the growing routes of communication, nurses have been generally receptive to new ideas in healthcare. They are at the forefront in adapting with flexibility with improved medical equipment, alternative therapeutic communication, new treatment options, the ever-changing morals of the general population—all in respect to achieve upmost deliverance in care giving. Includes patient advocacy.” (Wilkinson, Treas, Barnett, & Smith, Fundamentals of Nursing, 2016, p. 1146). Altruism is the ability for selfless and dedicating own life to the welfare of others. The nursing profession demands the practitioners to provide the sense of love and to show kindness to every patient. A nursing professional must further maintain not just integrity, but calmness with a patient to fully provide supportive security. Perhaps, this is most important for the professional Nurse as this is a reliable attribute to prevent burnout and stress. Burnout and stress can inhibit and may impede carrying out the intended duty efficiently and effectively. In order to attain and secure these humanistic values, the profession demands that one must exhibit unending love, kindness and mental awareness at all
