According to Berger, the United States has predicted that the number of elderly people in our country will double by the year 2050. Many older adults recollect their lives with fond memories, allowing them to have hope and preserve their integrity (Berger, 2010). I would like to leave behind a sense of accomplishment for me and my family, to show them that life is more than what we have currently made it to be, which is living for the weekend. That the younger generation can do better than the older generation in regards to health, emotional health, financial stability and enjoyment of life. To “live a good life” would involve me being able to assist the people I love with their dreams and aspirations, whether that be with money, inspiration or just someone to talk to when they have joyous or devastating news. Whether it be starting a medical clinic for low income families or affording the opportunity to young adults to have a college education I am unsure, but my goal is to help my community make a change for the better. That would be “living an amazing life.”
4. What are some of the “keys” to long life?
A long life starts with taking care of yourself physically and emotionally. This begins with a well balanced diet, appropriate exercise, attending regular check ups, getting enough sleep and coping with stress in a healthy way. However you also need close, intimate relationships with people that make you feel good about yourself and can promote a positive self image. As we age we must stay active and have a reason to get out of bed that makes us hopeful for tomorrow.
