Childhood obesity is a major problem in the United States due to the availability of junk food as well as the lack of exercise and has been getting worse over the recent years. According to “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention”, “For children and adolescents aged 2-19 years, the prevalence of obesity has remained fairly stable at about 17% and affects about 12.7 million children and adolescents for the past decade” (Centers for disease control and prevention, 2015, pg.1). According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation, “the number of children (under age 18) in the United States is at an all-time high of 74.2 million” (The Annie E. Casey foundation, 2011). This means that out of 74.2 million children, 12.7 of them are obese. With childhood obesity being on the rise in recent years, Michelle Obama created the “Let’s Move Campaign” to help children become active and healthy and composed a list of the many benefits of incorporating more exercise in school.
