Exercise and physical activity have been known as one of the many ways to ensure a healthy physical and mental well-being. In addition to a well-balanced diet full of all necessary nutrients, one should also consider engaging in regular physical activity with respect to a health professional’s recommendation. Regular exercise plays an essential role in opening organs of the body; hence, helping them to function effectively. The growing body of knowledge in the health of a human being substantiates the fact that exercise is critical to the physical well-being of a person, as it is a preventative measure from contracting a variety of diseases. Moreover, physical inactivity is associated with mental health variables such as anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, and mood state. Some reviews of studies dating back to 1981 show that regular exercise helps improve people 's moods as well as depression. Besides, in terms of the research that has been done, people were divided into groups. The subsequent results showed that there was a point in that regular exercise reduces cases of depression (Publications, Harvard Health n.p). Apart from depression, exercise makes sure that one 's weight is optimum; hence, there are no rampant cases of obesity among people. In a society, where many people are eating foods full of starch, there is a dire need for physical activity so that the excess fat can be utilized thus minimize risks of disease.
Consequently, different researchers have conducted studies in an attempt to determine the effects of exercise on the health of individuals both physically and mentally. Physical activity, both aerobic and anaerobic, has proved to be beneficial in reducing the risks of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, obesity, hypertension, bone and joint problems, among others. Moreover, it is associated with the mental development as well as reducing the risks of related mental illnesses. For instance, physical activity ensures that one reduces the intensity of depression, stress, and anxiety. It is also significant in ensuring that one 's self-esteem is enhanced as well as their mood. In an attempt to ensure that one enjoys the full benefits that are associated with exercising and physical activity, one should make sure that the actions are taken regularly. Similarly, it should be done for a specific period to ensure its effectiveness. The duration and intensity of the physical activity should be determined by a professional, depending on the personal needs. Dedicating a minimum of sixty minutes a day or about five hours a week, will help to ensure a healthy body. It will also play a critical role in brain development; hence, they will engage in challenging issues, since the brain is activated to provide concrete solutions.
