Therefore, schools should dispose of sports to save money, have more people pass their classes, and have better school graduation rates.

As anyone should know, athletic equipment isn't cheap and districts could save a lot of money if they don't invest in sports programs. “In many schools sports are so entrenched that no one realizes the actual cost” ( Ripley 11). Students all over the U.S. are failing classes, because of this “America lags behind other countries academically” (Ripley 10). Ripley also concluded that schools who got rid of sports had a higher amount of students passing classes (11). This stands to show that districts who take away school athletic programs and make education number one, had great things to follow. Schools that take away sports will have more pupils pass their classes.

Last but not least many schools know that the U.S. needs to fix the graduation rates across the U.S. According to Ripley “80 percent of students passed their classes compared with the 50 percent the previous fall” (11). “About 160 people attended parent teacher night compared with 6 the year before” (Riley 11).This stands to show that taking away sports had a huge impact on graduation rates. Therefore taking away sports helps student graduation rates.

It’s useful for schools to get rid of sports because it’s important to save money, have more people pass classes, and have better school graduation rates. There is no debate that getting rid of sports causes students to focus more during school, because there isn't any distraction like what team is going to win. There for getting rid of sports saves money, more people will pass classes and will lead to better school graduation

Summary and Critique In Amanda Ripley’s article, “The Case Against High School Sports,” she insists that sports have an insignificant role in schools and, consequently, harms students, their performance in school, and the schools themselves. Ripley believes that students without sports programs benefit from the exclusion of sports and schools can also benefit or improve with the excess funds from sports (1-3). While Ripley’s argument has some merit, at least at first glance, the main ideas are lacking solid evidence and are cherry picked. Ripley believes that schools in the United States that have a sports program are immediately behind other schools academically and the students are more likely to focus on sports than they are academics.…

“Sports...is seriously underestimated by educators, who see sports as competing with academic development rather than a route to it.” As I described, in my experience sports in my school did compete with academic development as did a variety of other social factors. I would suggest that if sports are to be a part of a well rounded education, then athletics should be optional to all students, not just the select few. It is no wonder introductory education would be socially divided, and students marginalized when at its core, the structure is flawed. Graff asserts that “the sports world was more compelling than school because it was more intellectual than school, not less.”…

On the other hand, some people argue that sports in America have too many conflicts with a kids life.
