After thirteen years of school, an eighteen year old walks across a stage, receives a handshake, a piece of paper, and then enters the real world. Senior year is the year a high school student decides the rest of his or her life. He or she can decide to go to college, technical school, or straight into the workforce. For some, those thirteen years are long enough and there is no need for more schooling. In the long run, is college worth it? College degrees take time and money to receive. After the degree is received, a career can begin. Those careers become a source of income and mean a future for the graduate and the family. Even though college takes a large portion of a person’s time and money, it is worth all the work put in and money spent. To begin, the average salary of a college graduate is much higher than a high school graduate’s salary. Depending on the type of degree received, the income can be a small fortune.

For some people, that is an entire year’s salary. Many people in America live paycheck to paycheck and are barely getting by. The economy is terrible and has been for many years. However, there are some high paying jobs that do not require a college degree. People have to be willing to work with their hands and not always be comfortable in their work environment. College also takes a lot of time to finish. Most degrees take at least four years, some take more, and some take less. It is also hard to work while going to college. The course load of college is tremendous. For many people, it is easier to just graduate high school and then find a job. College is too much of a hassle for most
