George Pope was a great man. He was my biggest influence growing up, and he taught me that I had to work hard for everything I want. He believed that nothing in life came easy or free. He spent his whole life earning everything he had. When he was a kid he did several random jobs, whatever he could do to earn money to contribute to his family. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the military to serve and protect his country. He fought overseas in the Korean War. He was a very strong and brave man. He fought in the infantry unit with other soldiers who were trained to fight on foot. He served four years in the military, and then finally came home to his family and friends. He named the store Dan’s Market. Dan was his middle name, which he went by his whole life. He put his daughter to work as a cashier and gave her a chance to earn money. He gave his son a job stocking and cleaning the store. His wife also helped out when she needed to. It was a family oriented business and everyone who knew him loved him. was very He knowledgeable, kind, and was always there to help out in any way he could. There were several times people were down on their luck and needed help, so he did what he knew best and put them to work. He was an active member in the community and even sponsored the little leagues. I was on one of those little league teams and it is one of my fondest childhood memories.
