They say if the owner is willing to take on the extra responsibility and treat the animal well, then there shouldn't be any problems. However, that simply isn't true. Owning an exotic animal takes a great level of commitment. Supporters of this argument totally disregard that exotic animals are considered exotic because one; they are undomesticated, wild animals; and two, the requirements that they need to survive is quite extreme compared to the common pets we have today.…

Breeders Neglect of Reptiles and Amphibians There has been a problem in the commercial reptile and amphibian pet trade; mass breeders. They use mass farming methods to spew out hundreds and hundreds of frogs, lizards, turtles, and so many other animals. They put them in large, overcrowded plastic bins and leave them there with no food or water. They deny care to the injured ones, who got injured due to the nature of these animals; they are violent to each other. They let them slowly rot away because it would be too much of a burden to simply care for these animals, or remove the sick ones at least.…

Nowadays, there is a huge consumption of animal-origin food, but there are not enough animals to meet the demand. For that reason, the farms try to increase the production at any cost, not considering the conditions of the animals, and reducing their space to very small cages, because “space now equates money”. What makes the situation worse is that the United States does not have federal laws that protect farm animals from cruelty and expose the inhumanity that takes place on the farms, which has been reported as illegal (A Concise Summary of Gene Stone’s Forks Over Knives, 2012). But there is an easy solution to this problem; in fact, if people start eating a plant-based diet, the demand for animal-origin food will decrease, and the farms will not have the same need for massive production; therefore, animals will be treated as they deserve to be, just because they are living beings, not “dollar signs taking up valuable real estate” (A Concise Summary of Gene Stone’s Forks Over Knives,…

From zoos, to aquariums, to petting zoos, and even our own pets, humans have always been fascinated by animals, and have gone to certain extents to use them for learning purposes, preservation, survival, companionship, and occasionally entertainment. Menageries allow people to learn about animals from a safe distance and see some animals which they would never have seen if it were not for wildlife parks. Many argue that captive animals are not happy in their environment, and should be set free from zoos in their natural habitat. Although many find captivity cruel and unnecessary, having animals in captivity is beneficial to our society as well as to captive animals because when done right, endangered species are protected and well taken care of, people are able to experience beautiful wildlife,…

According to National Geographic, the article “Exotic Pets”, former exotic wildlife owner, Tim Harrison claims, “(I) will never again own anything wild or exotic./ (I) believe ownership of all potentially dangerous exotic animals should be banned”. Therefore even a former owner of wolves, snakes, lions, and bears agrees that having possession of wild animals can be extremely dangerous to a person considering exotic pets can be unpredictable. Furthermore, owners of exotic pets do not realize the risk and danger they put on the community for housing these exotic creatures. In National Geographic, the article “Exotic Pets” Lauren Slater writes, “A man named Terry Thompson let 50 of his wild animals, including lions and tigers, out of their cages and enclosures before killing himself”. This quote depicts an example of a man from Ohio, who let out 50 wild animals, causing a dangerous situation for citizens living in Muskingum County.…

The lives of the animals involved in factory farms are dreadful and never-ending. They experience constant pain and tortue and rarely, if ever, get to see a sliver of a normal life. Communities also feel the devastating effects of this style of farming as workers can easily transmit diseases from the unsanitary and unregulated workplace. Furthermore, the constant use of antibiotics on livestock for unnecessary purposes have increased bacteria-resistant strains, making diseases significantly harder to come up with a cure for. The environment is another victim of this type of system; the gases produced are the most harmful to the ozone layer and the livestock waste is immensely difficult to treat and control with massive factory farms.…
