James 2:14-17
Faith without works is dead in order to really understand what James was talking about in these scriptures I believe we need to utilize Matthew 22:37-40 (Nelson, 1982). This scripture includes the 2 greatest commandments which are to Love God and your neighbor. We must also be aware of what God requires of us when he commissions us to make disciples. In order for us to make disciples our lives must align with what we preach. I will also discuss in this exegetical project the importance of putting Action behind our Faith because God is moved by our faith in action. 1 Corinthians 3:6-9 also sheds light to how faith and works should be paired together as one. When we have both Faith and Works we are able to love and be loved.
Historical Consideration James is dealing with a church that treats people with partiality (James 2:1-4). God our creator Loves everyone the same and literally died and rose from the grave for each and every one of us. How can we treat each other differently when God loves us all the same? This is another reason why faith without works is dead. Joel Osteen went on to prove his point through Mark 2:3-5 when the paralysed man was being carried by 4 men on a long journey just to see Jesus. Mark 2:5 says “When Jesus saw their faith he said to the Paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”NKJV If you want to get God's attention put action behind it. It was as if Jesus was saying you forced me to move on your behalf when I saw that you didn’t just have faith but you also had works. The paralyzed mans faith even drove the 4 men to go above and beyond to get him inside of that house where Jesus
