Decent Essays
Dictatorship is defined as form of government in which one person or a small group possesses absolute power without effective constitutional limitations. While the United States is known as a democracy and was founded on the beliefs of a democracy, in recent years many people have begun to compare America's government to that of a dictatorship. The use of executive orders is one way that this can be explained. An executive order is a rule or order issued by the president to an executive branch of the government and having the force of law. An executive order can be implemented with out congressional oversight. Our government was founded on a basis that it would be ruled by the people and our founding fathers instituted a great set of checks

    a) Should the president of the United States threaten a veto with his executive power, the congress must meet compromises, negotiations, and sometimes consult the president in order to make the right decision. Should the executive power to veto not exist the congressional decision making of laws, bills, etc…would not be made as carefully considering they need to fit the president’s views. The power to issue executive orders is looked upon within the Congress, and before proposing the law, bill, etc… to the president countermands and/or preempts are often made in order to anticipate what the presidents executive orders might be, thus being said. The article of my interest concerns the unconstitutional nature of the Executive Order that President Trump enacted in January. Earlier this semester, we discussed how the travel ban issued by Executive Order violates aspects of the constitutional law. The article by Kerry Abrams, professor of law at the University of Virginia School of Law, succinctly explains how the Executive order violates constitutional law. Firstly, the order violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment by restricting individuals from seven predominantly Muslim countries for their religion and nationality.…

William Safire links Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address to the first anniversary of 9/11 very effectively. Safire showed how Lincoln shaped his text around images of birth, death, and resurrection to show when heroes die their deaths permit the rebirth of a nation. He links Lincoln’s words to the circumstances that happened on 9/11. I agree with Safire’s statement that, “the people, not the rulers, are sovereign.” The people get to elect who is in control of their country and if the leader does more harm than good, then they have the power to impeach them.…

Remember the Constitution starts with the words “We the People”, these three words, shows the importance of the people as the primary part to our country. In part the Founding Fathers were worried that strict rules of law and Centralized power would be not be appropriate for a growing nation and push a government that would not be fluent enough to grow in a progressive manner. A one size fits all Centralized Government process wouldn’t allow for our government to grow, for the country was and is growing, and is a dynamic process that would not be controlled with a single process of governing. The Centralized powers would not allow for the federal government to influence the people more readily.…

Checks and Balances, there is a debate about how the founders of the United States are questioning the judgement of their people through the three branches of government. The original founders are dubious whether or not to allot more power to the people as well as to the regulation or unconstrained of the three branches of government. One side sees the people are the necessary fundamentals for the establishment of an effective democracy, whereas others thought that the people were ignorant about voicing their own opinions. My personal opinion is that the people should have the majority of the power. However, as above, it can occur where the people can become ignorant to a certain idea or issue.…
