This Executive Order also revokes Executive Order 13246 issued on December 18, 2001 along with a Presidential Memorandum created on March 19, 2002. Both were enacted by President George W. Bush. The order protects privacy and provides public safety for the federal government, businesses and the general public. This Executive Order was established in order to create a commission of not more than 12 members appointed by the President. Members elected to the commission are to include members with extensive backgrounds in cybersecurity, information technology, identity management, internet governance and standards, and privacy. The task of the 12 commission members were to provide detailed recommendations for the public and private sectors to strengthen cybersecurity, ensure safety, bolster partnerships, and new technical solutions.
