Child-initiated activity hands practitioners a very powerful opportunity for learning. To make the most of this, as a practitioner you must: * maintain children's focus - actively using a range of strategies to keep the children engaged and extend their learning - introducing new words, thinking out loud, introducing more complex speech, bringing in new problems, encouraging conflict negotiation, demonstrating or explaining new ways of working towards a solution * offer assistance and support, when needed, so children are successful in following their ideas, even something simple like holding an object while a child works * ensure the learning environment offers a wide range of stimulating open-ended materials, both outdoors and indoors, for…

Pop quizzes have always been a dreaded possibility for students. Recently, in writing class, a pop quiz was handed out and many students failed. The point now in question is whether the grade should be put into the gradebook to be held against the class.
