Exchanging information through verbal and nonverbal communication is interpersonal communication. In all career fields, communication is very important to companies because it provokes companies to be productive and operate effectively. Employees can experience an increase in confidence and commitment if they are able to communicate easily in the communication chain of an organization. Though communication is important, it is not always easy for a person to communicate well. In this interview, I asked my interviewee a few questions about challenges he faced on his path to success of becoming a professor. As he answered the questions verbally, I observed and noted his nonverbal communication. It is quite fascinating how a person can communication …show more content…
Being a superior public speaker is essential to being successful today in the career field. By interviewing my biocalculus professor, I was able to expand my horizons. It allowed me to see where I need to enhance my capabilities and what I did exceptional on. During this interview, I realized that I both strengths and weakness as an interpersonal communicator when conversing with my professor. Initially, it was quite awkward because it was just my interviewee and I in his office. In addition to that, I do not have a strong relationship with Professor Michele, so I was quite nervous asking him questions about his life. I would stutter over words and read directly from my computer. When observing my interviewee during the interview, I notice that his nonverbal communication changed as the interview progressed. He was quite serious when answering the questions at first and then begin to smile and laugh as we conversed. As the interview started to unfold, I become more comfortable and was able to relax. When I began to ask questions that were based on the answers he told me, a fluent conversation arose and made the interview a lot easier. In the career field, I will not always be informed of the audience in which I will be speaking to. Currently, I am in Letters and Science and have not decided on what I want to study. As mentioned before, communication is a necessity in all fields. Before I started asking my interviewee questions about the challenges he faces dealing with communications, I asked him a few questions about his background and upbringing. Getting you know and becoming familiar with the person helps the conversation flow. In my future career, I will need to build strong relationships with my colleagues. I may need help with a task at the job. In order to complete the task, I will need guidance and assistance from one of my co-workers. If I do not have a good relationship with them, I may be to scared to ask. If I had never completed this interview I would have never had a one-on-one conversation with this professor. After the interview was over, he asked me did I have any problems with understanding the criteria from his class. In the future, I want to build relationships with all of my professors as well. Even if I do not need help with any of the work in the class, I still want to go to my professor 's office hours next semester. This will allow me to grow as a communicator and build relationships with people who potentially help me get internships or even jobs in the
