During short and intensive bursts of exercises, a person’s body generates energy for this anaerobically without any oxygen. When walking briskly up the hill you breathe heavily and after you stopped walking you’d still be breathing heavily. Your body helps to repair itself through taking extra oxygen to replace the oxygen debt. Oxygen deficit is the difference between the oxygen required in the body and what it actually took during the walk up the hill. Excess Post Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) is when the body stops working hard and actually need more oxygen to recover than what the body would have like to use. The body uses more oxygen because body temperatures and metabolic rates increase causing the body to need more oxygen. Oxygen consumption
