The Legend of Excalibur The Legend of Excalibur is a story of knights and dragons with princes and princesses. Except this time, the story is true, Excalibur was the sword of a great king and proves to us just what a sword is to a man. This sword is not just a sword of a former king, but it is a symbol of kingship and power. Some say that the sword possesses power to the one who wields it. To understand why the sword is so valuable, we have to look at the legend behind it, the myths that aren't true, and where this magical sword is today. In the late 5th century, there was a King Arthur of Camelot. He was a knight who brought together a group of knights to seek out the infamous Holy Grail. He was also the barrier of the legendary sword Excalibur. …show more content…
One of them is that it was given to him by the Lady of the Lake (Unleashed), and legend has it that the sword was not made of human materials but forged in another realm. Legend also says that when Arthur died, the sword returned to where it was made. Another legend is that the sword was put into a stone by Merlin the Wizard, only to be taken out by the rightful king of England. The legend of Excalibur says, “Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone and anvil, is rightwise king born of England.” Sir Thomas Malory (Lupack) Young Arthur then pulled the sword out of the stone and was then crowned High King of Britain right after. Arthur went on to rule Camelot for fifty years before he lost a swordfight with Mordred that ended with both of them dead. Although there is no set legend or myth of the sword today, people believe in many different legends around the world. For example, some resources say that when Arthur was of age, he came across a stone with a sword in it on Christmas Eve.
