Before you walk across this stage, and receive your degree…take a moment, take a moment to look around and remember this day, let it soak in, because you’ve earned this day. Remember that this is your day, and no one can take it from you. You were the one who stayed up late to study for that chemistry exam, you were the one who skipped going to the beach to write that paper for English. So, keep in mind that this is your moment to shine Someone once asked me, “what does it mean to be a Mariner”, and I told them, there is no single meaning, that can explain, what it means to be a Mariner. So, don’t forget, this campus has been your second home for the past few years, and it will always be a place for you to call home. I’ve enjoyed every moment that I’ve spent on this campus, I’m thankful for the mentors that have guide me and shaped me into the leader that I am

I wanted to ensure that these groups of freshmen feel safe, prepared, and excited for all of the valuable opportunities available at CHS. In a way, I feel that I am helping them begin a fresh, new journey by guiding them in the right direction for success. With Veterans Memorial High School opening up towards the beginning of my sophomore year; it put multiple kids from different background together into one school. In the origination of the school, it was quite difficult to put aside the previous student body loyalties, biases, and come together to create something worth lasting which has never happened before. I saw this task at hand and I decided I wanted to take part in uniting this school. I would play a part in creating a future for the next generations that have come and yet to come. Bringing people together and creating a sense of unity in such a divided world plays off when I look back and see how hard I worked in the making of that community.…

I also developed strong leadership and management skills to accompany those skills in which are needed to be a successful Career Marine. If you had been hired my freshman year I know I would be so much more successful. I still do consider everything I have done at Buchanan the last two years extremely successful, especially my show. I know throughout the second semester I kept saying how I hated my show and it didn’t go as planned, but up until the actual performances I gained a lot of experience and that is what is truly important. You helped me gain every piece of experience from that show. I do still think that it was a failure because it didn’t turn out how I wanted it to, but you expanded my knowledge of directing and patience!…

I want to take this opportunity to sincerely and formally thank you for all you have done and made possible in helping me progress throughout my time here at SPC. My experience as a member of the Honors College has enhanced my life through the fellowship, better course environments, and the exceptional research conference opportunities and exposure that your leadership has provided. From a student’s standpoint ― especially an “unconventional” student such as myself ― you have given not only fresh and unique opportunities to myself and our membership, but you have given your heart and soul with the purpose of adding an advanced and totally positive learning environment. I know many Honors College alumni privately express this very same message to you ― but your total giving of time, energy, creativity, and true caring should receive far more formal acknowledgement.…
