“Visible diversity refers to variance in visible or surface characteristics such as race, gender, and age” (Richard, et. Al. 2002. p.265). Race is characterized by being Caucasian, African American, Native American, or Hispanic. An example of this would be, Jason is Caucasian. Gender is characterized by being male or female. An example of this would be, Jason is a male. Age is determined by how old you are, which is based on your date of birth. An example of this would be, Jason is thirty-three years old.
“Non-visible differences can be divided into characteristics that are either psychological (based upon personality) or functional (based upon occupation and training (Jackson & Ruderman, 1995)” (Griffith & Dunham. 2015. p. 152). Examples
