Venipuncture procedure

Today I will be discussing how I would take the proper steps in a simple venipuncture. I will be discussing the supplies I will be using. And discuss proper introduction.
First before anything I will go over the patients chart to check if there have ever been any issues with the patient during any blood draws and I will also make sure to take the patients age and if necessary if the patient has any barriers that I would have to be aware of. Such as Language or disabilities.
After I know more about the patient I will then get all of the necessary supplies I will be using plus a couple more different supplies so if needed I will have them on hand. Because you never want to go …show more content…
Then I will make sure to get the patients permission. After I get the permission I would ask the patient for his/her name and if they can spell and stat their name. next I would ask the patient for their date of birth and after everything matches up I will continue with asking more about the patient like are you allergic to latex also are you fasting. Also, you can ask the patient if they are prone to fainting or if they have an arm preference.
After asking all the necessary questions and verifying the patient I would continue with getting all of my equipment ready to perform the draw, first I would tie the tourniquet and palpate the vain and if I cannot find the one I am feeling comfortable on one arm I will look on the other, and when I find the vein, I would clean the site, put my needle and hub together also get the proper tubes that I will be needing and wait for the site to dry. After I would ask the patient if they are ready. Then I would tie the tourniquet 3-4 inches above the draw site then
