In the book The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, the vengeance the Count puts on those who wronged him was not justified and left many harmed who should not have been. For example, during the act of getting revenge on Villefort, he gives Madame Villefort the bottle of brucine which allows her to kill her parents-in-law and her son. He knows what he’s done and even says to himself on the way out, “‘I’m sure the seed I’ve sown hasn’t fallen on the barren ground’’’ (Dumas 226), referring to giving Madame Villefort the poison as a “seed” which leads to greater things. Also, the Count is so confident in himself he tries to play God and punish those who wronged him instead of letting God punish them. He says when talking to Monsieur Villefort
