He was born on January 1st, 1788 in Dijon, Just a year before the French Revolution. Instead of following his father’s footsteps and becoming an oak cask builder for Burgundy win he went and studied medicine at a university but switched to law later on. He graduated right when the country fell back under the rule of Louis XVIII and Charles X. He became a radical lawyer defending dissidents. He helped lead the protests against King Charles X to make a change. He helped make Charles give the throne over to his cousin who was much more accepted amongst the people. But in 1834 he was accused of treason and escaped to England. After spending time in England he was quite influenced by Robert Owen and his view on utopia and in doing so pushed him to find his view on his own utopia. He went back to France after 5 years and started a communitarian social movement. Since last being there he had educated himself a lot and wrapped himself around the idea of utopia and started using the word communism and helped some writer get started and one notable one would be Karl Marx who took this word and made the political theory of communism which all land is publicly owned and people are paid according to their need and skills. After time though Cabet stopped trying to help fix the French Society from his point of view and gathered his followers and moved to the United States to start his own utopian community starting in Texas. He started quite a few difference communes in several states over the time and the last one lasted all the way up to 1898 and lasted a total of 46 years. It was quite successful in a sense that it ended up being one of the longest lasting “communal living experiments” in America. During all these he tried to fix many problems within them but in the end was kicked out of his own communities and died in
