Unit 10 Vocabulary Story
Ruby had never been a litigant before, and she never thought she would. Until today. On that rainy, muddy day, similar to something out of a dramatic movie, that Ruby drove to court, changed her life forever. Growing up with all the right intentions and morals, she had been known as a “good girl”. Ruby always steered herself out of trouble whenever there was even the slightest possibility. For some people, this was new to them: avoiding trouble, but it was just how Ruby lived. Whenever her name came up in a conversation, someone would ask if it was the Ruby that was always good, always well-behaved. She got along with everyone, she was never referred to as a nemesis. As she drove early to court, she always wanted to make sure that she was on time, she just wished she could act autonomously and leave on her own terms. She wished anything, anything at all, but to not be on her way to the opposite of what she stood for. As she forced herself to not press the breaks, she went over what happened, for the one hundredth time, in her head. Ruby was folding laundry while she heard a forceful ring downstairs. Startled, but always happy for a guest, she scrambled downstairs, opened the door (without even looking to see who it was), and greeted the official looking man with a pleasant smile.
