The novel shows us how government changes history and lets us see what the party wants. The party control the citizens mind by getting them to love big brother. In part 3 chapter 3 o'brien says “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever” what I believe this quote is saying is that the government will forever be in power, if you want to see the future, you can't think of the past. By forgetting about history, we lose every sense of individual existence. If it were to happen, just like Rotner said “it will erode overtime because we haven’t been vigilant” The party attempts to control people by changing the past and forces the people to live a life of terror and fear. By changing the way people view the past is a way for them to control the mind. Like I said you can control the future if you control what you thought. This novel shows us a perspective that my generation couldn’t live. It also shows us how people didn’t have a choice but to live with fear of making a bad expression or doublethink.
