Examples Of Tom Sawyer Deception

In the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain, Tom uses deception to try and get his way. When Tom lies it often comes back to him or makes him feel really awful inside. In the book Tom Sawyer has many examples of deception, He tricks people into getting his own work done, he lies to friends and family, and also leaves them- leaving them with an unknown outcome.Tom Sawyer lies hoping that they will help him, at the time they may, but in the end honesty is so much more rewarded than lying. Elvis Presley said “Truth is like the Sun, You can shut it out for a time but it ain't going away!” If Tom Sawyer wouldn’t have lied, he would have been saved from a lot of future problems and pain.

To attempt to impress Becky, he says that he has enough tickets to receive a bible. Which Tom is lying. So the teacher, knowing that he didn’t read the bible, asks him a question where Tom Sawyer ends up embarrassing himself in front of everyone. Lying and embarrassment is not a good way to impress someone. Lying usually ends in not so good outcomes including embarrassment and awkwardness. In this book Tom Sawyer, Joe Harper, and Huck Finn leave town to go off onto an island and live on their own. In result of them leaving the whole town thinks they are dead. The day that they decide to return to town it is the day of their funeral, which outs them in an awkward situation. They were deceiving those people that were in town by being alive.
