To attempt to impress Becky, he says that he has enough tickets to receive a bible. Which Tom is lying. So the teacher, knowing that he didn’t read the bible, asks him a question where Tom Sawyer ends up embarrassing himself in front of everyone. Lying and embarrassment is not a good way to impress someone. Lying usually ends in not so good outcomes including embarrassment and awkwardness. In this book Tom Sawyer, Joe Harper, and Huck Finn leave town to go off onto an island and live on their own. In result of them leaving the whole town thinks they are dead. The day that they decide to return to town it is the day of their funeral, which outs them in an awkward situation. They were deceiving those people that were in town by being alive. Not lying saves people from awkward and embarrassing
