Tolerance Demonstration As a person grows up, it automatically makes he or she become more mature by showing tolerance. Just like people will understand why their parents won’t let them play games before finishing their homework. To Kill a Mockingbird is written by Harper Lee. The main theme of this book is: It is a sin to kill a mockingbird. The mockingbirds are the symbols of the characters in the novel, it represents the racial injustice. Also, the book tells people many things about how different people are. And it also shows how people in the book show their tolerance. Go through Atticus, Calpurnia, Jem these three characters in the book, see the themes of tolerance have shown in their actions. …show more content…
When Atticus leaves the post office Bob Ewell approaches him and spits in Atticus’s face. After that, Atticus says, “I wish Bob Ewell wouldn't chew tobacco” (Lee 220). Bob Ewell asks Atticus if he was too proud to fight, but he responded by saying, “No, too old” (Lee 220). Atticus is calm to react. He just acts like it is not a big deal. He does this also for his children, he wants to keep himself safe not to make his children worry about his safety. This act make Atticus feel more determined to defend Tom Robinson and keep his children in safe. All he wants is do the things that are
