Power is a key term in violence and politics. People in politics use power to direct or influence events or the behavior of others. Likewise, someone conducting an act of violence can use their power over others to intimidate, control and/or threaten them. Some use violence as a way to gain/maintain power or influence, this is not very effective because violence rarely creates power and can diminish the power of those who turn to it.
Another key term in politics and violence is the legal system. The government can use violence acts or threats to enforce the set laws and rules. The government has authority that acts as a moral force that makes people obey, similarly violence can enforce obedience through threats
