Understanding Sociological Perspectives and Theoretical Approaches From society to society across the globe, ideologies and ways of life differ. Though customs are unique to different cultures, there are also similarities which link them. The underlying cause of this phenomenon can be given responsibility to sociological perspectives and theories. Sociological perspectives and theoretical approaches are what make up the similarities, differences, and connection between cultures which produces an effect on these societies as well as the individual. What we consider middle class in the United States is certainly not middle class compared to the rest of the world; it is considered upper class. Our social issues are far greater in other areas of the globe. We must also consider the fact that we live the lives that we do because of where we live. If people in the United States were to live a more than comfortable lifestyle, it is because they have more opportunities compared to the people living in poorer countries in Africa. Although the lives we lead may differ from those in poorer countries, it does not mean that we are not connected to them. Everything that occurs on a global scale affects everyone on an individual scale. Knowing what happens in different areas of the world will help us figure out what is going on in our society and possibly change our perceptions. (Macinonis 8-9) An example that I can pull from my own life is on a more miniscule scale. I remember as a child, I thought everyone had parents like mine and it was not until I grew older that I began to understand how privileged I was to have such caring parents. Considering this, there are so many things we can learn about ourselves just by being aware of what goes on around the
