This class is formatted as an “Introduction to the History and Development of the Christian Church”. While our primary focus will be on the development of the Roman Catholic Church, we will also be focusing on the other branches of Christianity as well as the neighboring prophetic religions of Judaism and Islam. Your responsibility is to do the reading and be as prepared as you can in classroom discussion about the topics each day.
Your final grade will be determined by the following:
1) 4 tests each worth 20% of your grade. These are NOT cumulative. After we finish each section, you will not be tested on that material except when it relates to topics later in the semester.
2) Class participation and attendance. 20%. This is extremely important especially for those of you who do not test well. This grade can make or break your final grade. Just do the work that is required and you should be fine.
If you need to take tests/do work at the Academic support center, please let me know ASAP.
If you play a sport, let me know your schedule especially if a game takes you away from class.
Do not take out your phone or text in class. If you do, you will have to leave the class immediately and you are responsible for the material you missed.
If you are sick, you need a note from the Health Center. Calling me or emailing me doesn’t really count.
The time to ask me for help is BEFORE a test. Once you take a test, there is nothing you can do. So, if you come to me claiming that you had no sleep, had a roommate issue, a family member died and that is WHY YOU FAILED, my sympathies are with you but unfortunately there is nothing you can do. Email me, call me, talk to me BEFORE the test and I will bend over backwards to help!
When you take the test, place all notes/materials face down and under your chair.
I will provide a study guide for each test. Take this seriously. If you don’t look at it until the night before the test, you will fail. Take advantage of the class time review. Study in
