Throughout the movie, Anthony constantly talks about how he is not the common stereotype of a young black man, by then saying that he is not a thug. Then goes on saying, “You don’t have any idea why they out great big windows on buses, one reason only, to humiliate the people of color riding on them.” Anthony tries to convince himself that he does what must be done and is always vocalizing the stereotypes to Peter to have some type of validations towards his actions. Throughout the scenes of Anthony the mise-en-scene of it all shows the views that he is just in that line of work because of the pay and also shows the measures he must take in order to continue living. The stereotype of Anthony being a gangster because of his line of work to survive plays a part of society identifying him by being a black man. Throughout the movie she plays the role of a housewife who complains about things that are pointless and uses racial stereotypes towards people of color to feel superior and safe. In the beginning, Anthony points his gun to Jean so he could steal their car. She later says to her husband that it was her fault, that it had happened because she knew the two black guys were going to rob them because of their skin color. She then goes on by saying, she wanted to get her locks to her house changed again because the man that was changing them was looked like a “gang banger.” This particular scene shows her white guilt and her justifications with uses of stereotypes towards the people of color. Her white guilt comes from wanting to advise her husband to watch out for the two black men because she knew it was just her stereotyping them for their skin color.
