Socrates Wisdom of Life It is a normal act for human beings to live their life and still not exist in this world. This was the idea Socrates, the greatest philosopher known to mankind, had brought up to question the importance of existence. In evaluation of Socrates claim that “the unexamined life is not worth living” means that a life without philosophical curiosity and wonder has no purpose. He claim to always try to know ourselves from within and to understand wisdom because thats the only way to find the value of life.

Additionally, the way Socrates died convey the value of virtue and excellence that without it there is no life to function upon. After all, a life without philosophical seeking is hardly call a humanness life. The fact that Socrates was embracing his death even though it was obvious he value the life he lived and his philosophy teaching, can only explain that the unexamined life shouldn’t be taken for granted. As he mentioned, “it is clear to me that it was better for me to die now and to escape from trouble.”(Apology 44e) Clearly, the willingness of dying was the best option if he was prohibited in practicing his usual philosophy and this exhibit the idea of strong character carried out by action. Those who object the idea of Socrates can say that the measure of what’s worth living and what is not is completely up to the individual itself to make the decision. But if all can understand the trial of Socrates death is the result of the unexamined society who had put an end to his life. Those who didn’t listen to his advice wisdom about self-revaluation were faced with avenged when Plato opened the Academy to create the widespread of philosophy. Plato is an example of what Socrates mean about the examined life when those in jury appointed him to die because Plato followed the practice of wisdom. For instance, take the American society as a prime scenario of the unexamined life because today people are more concern about money, luxury goods, and success and see that as the goal of life. But this is just what society has succumb to when individual’s just care about pleasure and forget to focus on the basic need of a human being. It is about nourishing the mind and soul with self-awareness and investigating deeply from within.
