Why not Socialism Socialism in theory sounds very appealing however, in practice it’s a disaster. Gerald Cohen a pronounced philosopher talks about how socialism could be good for people. Although, his arguments are weak and unclear on why socialism is better. It brings up the question on how can socialism be better than capitalism, and why his argument isn’t convincing. If a person has to choose between living in a society where they have an equal say in the decisions made about their lives and have freedoms to act as they please, versus a society where a leader has complete control over everyone’s actions and freedoms are taken away from the people, it seems obvious which choice would be made. However, oftentimes the latter is apparent. Dangerous totalitarian societies are evident in the novels 1984, Animal Farm, and The Hunger Games. 1984, written by George Orwell, is a novel revolving around a man named Winston who struggles in Oceania, a place where the Party scrutinizes human actions and has total control over its people. Animal Farm, another George Orwell novel, is an allegory to the events of the Russian Revolution where pig leaders rebel against the human owner of a farm.…

During these changes, Napoleon used Squealer (who represents the Russian media) to deceive the animals into believing all these changes were necessary to make Animal Farm…

Snowball and Napoleon continue their debates, the greatest of which occurs over building a windmill on a knoll. Snowball argues in favor of the windmill, which he is certain will eventually become a labor-saving device; Napoleon argues against it, saying that building the windmill will take time and effort away from the more important task of producing food. The two also disagree on whether they should have a armory of guns or send out more pigeons to neighboring farms to spread news of the rebellion. On the Sunday that the plan for the windmill is to be put to a vote, Napoleon calls out nine ferocious dogs, who chase Snowball off the farm. Napoleon then announces that all debates will stop and makes a number of other new rules for the farm.…
