Social media discursive essay
Social media is a platform that is seen to be important according to the material that it selects to cover. Many people get their news and other information from the media rather than from other sources or individuals thus making it widely recognized and influential as people worldwide access it. I agree that media is the most powerful entity on earth. Through the examination of the standards the media sets, the role of the media being the common carrier and acting as a broadcast representative, I will show that media is the most powerful entity on earth.
The media influences the way individuals live their lives. The media makes people believe that they have to reach a certain standard to please other people. The media sets standards on how people should look, act, or live their lives; it takes away originality. Most of the societies perception of ideal beauty has stemmed from the media. This does not reflect the true situation and thus makes individuals weary and mistrusting of news. This is evident in the Israel Palestine conflict. Recently there was a picture put up on the news of an Israeli soldier holding a dead Palestinian child, making it look as if he had killed the child. In fact the real story is that the Palestinians had thrown a bomb and it injured the child. The Israeli soldier was trying to help the child and save his life. This does dismiss some of the power the media has as people begin to question the information put out by the media however people do not make an effort to find out the true stories and rather believe what the media says. Therefore showing how even though the media displays partially untrue information, which partly diminishes, the medias power it is still a powerful
