A Lot of people turn a blind eye to things not connecting them to racism, even when it's obvious. The moment you visually see a black male lying on the ground with his hands up and still getting shot by a police officer, then when asking “why’d you shot me?” and the response is “ I don’t know…”, and people still create excuses for the cop to be let free is disgusting. Turning on your television and seeing groups of college kids protest because they feel their white voices are being oppressed, and Chanting “White power” with others throwing racial slurs and wearing “KKK” attire, while carrying a Nazi flag is saddening. Then watch African American still having to explain why you don’t stand and pledge to the flag, being told “you're disrespecting to all soldiers who fought for you” being yelled at, spat on and called cruel names, being told it is your right not to stand but be still being shamed by it. You pledge to a flag that wasn't sewed together with intentions of Africans being equal, let alone treated as so. Instead, you use your right to silent assemble and use it to bring light on one of the biggest social injustices in America.

In America, this type of stratification takes place in modern-day societies, Americans being called out your name for no other reason than hatred. Taking the silent protest of not standing during the pledge, speaking openly about the horrific racial events that take place in the world. It affects the black community greatly, it divides us from the ones who want to do something about it and the others who just want to ignore it until it happens to them.
