What is irony? Irony is the opposite of what is expected. Irony is another word for sarcasm or mockery. Irony is most common in stories, novels and even daily conversations. Two common types of irony are dramatic irony and situational irony. Dramatic irony is within a situation where the audience knows what is going on but the characters does not.
