Scrooge is transforming from a bad to a good person in the novel A Christmas Carole. There are three spirits that take him to the past, present, and the future. The first spirits make him more giving, compassionate, and a thankful person. The second spirit makes him a caring, happy, and regretful man. The last spirit turns him even more of a thankful and caring person. Scrooge will slowly change as the spirits take him to places.
Scrooge became more of a giving, compassionate, and a thankful person during his time with the first spirit. On page 22, Scrooge states, “Nothing. There was a boy singing a Christmas Carole at my door last night. I should like to have given him something. That is all.” Scrooge is starting to become a giving person when he thinks of the boy singing after he saw himself in the past. On page 26, Scrooge said, “The happiness he gives, is quite as great as if it cost a fortune.” Scrooge is thankful of Fezziwag and telling the first spirit how a good person that Fezziwag was. On page 27, Scrooge explained, “No. I should like to be able to say a word or two to my clerk just now. On page 40, Scrooge says, “Spirit, tell me if Tiny Tim will live?” Scrooge seems concerned about Tiny Tim and is starting to care for others. On page 48, Scrooge’s nephew shouts, “A merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the old man, wherever he is!” Scrooge becomes grumpy to happy when Scrooge’s nephew said those things indirectly to him. On page 45, Scrooge’s nephew explains, “I am sorry for his; I couldn’t be angry with him if I tried. Who suffers by his ill whims?
