In many of the larger cities in America you will find gay neighborhoods or better known as “safe havens.” How are these considered safe havens when all they attract is antigay violence and discrimination towards the gay community? May victims such as Don and David were harmless and just going about their daily lives by simply walking home when they were raided by high schoolers. Gay white men are at risk of daily discrimination and both physical and verbal violence from homophobes or according to Wayne Myslik, gay bashers. In western society, heterosexuality is seen as “normal” and “natural” anything else is shamed upon. Homosexual men are seen as outcasts in the binary system and homosexuality is tolerated so much as it is hidden from society.
