“Sacrificing your happiness for the happiness of the one you love is by far the truest type of love” (Unknown). In every relationship someone sacrifices something for the happiness of the other. In “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry, the main theme is that love sometimes involves sacrifice. “To sacrifice is to give up something precious in order to gain or maintain something” (Ben-Zeev 1). People make a lot of sacrifices to keep their relationship. Sacrifices aren’t made in just relationships, they are also made in families. For example, a mother gives up her education or job to take care of her kids. Everyone makes sacrifices on a daily basis. Making sacrifices is just a part of life. Sacrifices for love don’t just happen in movies and books, they also happen in real life. Real life examples can be leaving your hometown and job to move in with someone that you love. People also risk their lives to save others. Every day people make sacrifices whether it’s big or small. Alex was a person who was lazy and liked hanging out with friends. He was a hard worker, but he didn’t like to work. His family started to run short on money. He had not realized that his parents were having trouble keeping up with paying the bills. He wanted to help, so he got a job. He wasn’t getting paid a lot, but it was enough. Since he started working he didn’t have time to be with his friends. His job made him realized how lazy he was and how much time he was wasting doing nothing. After his family was caught up with paying the bills, he kept his job and learned to manage his time so that he could hang out with his friends.
