In The Crucible, people make hard decision, and sometimes sacrifice something from that decision. John Proctor has made a hard sacrifice, but the right decision. He died so his family can have a good life, instead of his family living a bad life for his mistake. Proctor had sex with Abigail, which led to a chain of events which had him in a corner. What he did in the beginning was a bad decision, but he made it right by dying for his own mistake, and not trying make other lives bad for his doing. Proctor has made a good decision in the end. John Proctor made a sacrifice for his life. He died for his family, and for what he believed in. he made the right decision, because his family doesn’t have to live a bad life for his mistake. Before John Proctor made the decision to have himself hung for what he believed in, Proctor didn’t think that he would have to die for this sin. He went to jail so his friends doesn’t have to suffer for his doing. Arthur Miller was a Communist, and in the times of McCarthyism, it wasn’t a good thing to be a Communist. The Crucible was based on McCarthyism, and the Salem Witch trials can be a metaphor for the manhunt for Communist in America. The sacrifices that Proctor and Miller made seemed to be the only good choice they had, but to the government, it was the only bad choice they had. The people of the village saw Proctor’s sacrifice as a good one, but the people of America saw Miller’s sacrifice as a bad choice because the Americans wanted to get rid of Communist. The government saw their sacrifices the same, which they thought of the sacrifices as a bad one, because they wanted to heard the other names that they thought were doing something
