The Logans sacrifice their personal safety and the ownership of their land in several instances in order to fight for what their beliefs. Also, the Logans have a large mortgage on the land. As a result, the Logans owe a lot of money, and have no way of getting it back for now. She knew that it was better to teach what she believed in and get fired than not teaching what she believed and keeping her job: “I taught some things some folks just didn’t want to hear,” Mama said.
