‘Salem Father Killed, Suspects Arrested After Shooting,’ by David Davis and Whitney M. Woodworth is an article on a U.S. crime incident from the Statesman Journal that was published on August 2, 2016. This article addresses an incident of a robbery turned shooting in northeast Salem. Two offenders were arrested who are believed to be the suspects responsible for the shooting that occurred within a Salem home, the 4800 block of Jean Street NE. The original intent of the robbery was to steal marijuana from the youngest resident. It escalated when the oldest resident involved himself in the confrontation and got shot. An urban area refers to towns, cities, and suburbs. The suburbs produce a set of routine activities that promote the risk of victimiation. “Since metropolitan areas provide a critical population mass, predatory criminals are better able to hide and evade apprehension” (criminology book source). Although the background of such acitivities in this case is unknown, as well as the relationship between the offenders and victim, it is likely they had a previous relationship. One can see this is true through the facts that the offenders were in the same age proximity, the offenders were looking for marijuana specifically, and they knew exactly who and where to get it
