Robotic Humans: The Frankenstein of the Future
In Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein the main character, Victor, plays around with the science of human ethics and nature and make a monster. Victor claims throughout the story how “Superhuman” the Monster was by its superhuman speed and strength and take on extreme harsh conditions that a regular human could not. With robotic technology engineering evolving at the rapid pase it has been, the thought of superhumans and superhuman robotic limbs/prosthetics is very much becoming a reality and a very scary one at that. The uses could be unlimited from giving friendly troops special advantages on the battlefield to helping crippled civilians get their lives back. Our continuous exploration into science can be, and usually is, beneficial to the world in many ways, not only technology, another example being advancements in medicine. But if we let that scientific information slip into the wrong hands or use it in unfair ways, it could have terrible consequences. At the beginning of the book, Victor is constructing his Monster with various different body parts and features. Victor comments on the Monsters “gigantic stature” (53) and superhuman capabilities a few times throughout his search for his Monster. When Victor …show more content…
The possibilities are endless. The thought of the use of robotic limbs and superhuman capabilities are closer than you think. Yes, there is still much more testing and researching to be done before this is used in ways of war and modern medicine but I'm sure we will see new studies coming out in the coming years. For good and bad this technology can be used we just have to decide how and when we use it. Scientists continued exploration into science is helping us in more ways than we could really imagine. But if not thought out completely and used for destruction and wrong doing could cripple rather than heal
