The Fights Beowulf Fought In the epic poem Beowulf, revenge is one of the main themes. Grendel's mother wants revenge on Beowulf, another time revenge played a role in the poem is when beowulf killed Grendel. My last revenge example, is when Beowulf fights his last battle with the dragon. Grendel’s mother wants revenge because Beowulf killed Grendel in the meadhall. This battle took place where Grendels mom lives, which she knows best. “Then he saw the mighty water witch, and swung his sword, his ring-marked blade, straight at her head; the iron sang its fertile song, sang Beowulf’s strength”(58). In this battle Beowulf used a sword to kill Grendel's mother. She makes it very obvious that because of her grief that she isn't as strong as Beowulf, but that doesn’t stop her. When she saw her son come home nearly dead with his arm ripped out of it’s socket, it didn’t make her cry it just made her angry. Revenge is a main theme in this story and some people didn’t think her getting revenge was right, because her son killed many innocent …show more content…

Grendel kill many innocent men just for the fun of it, which is why Beowulf wants revenge. In this battle Beowulf didn’t use and weapon, he used his bare hands to rip his arm out of his socket. Beowulf took this win very proudly. He went into the battle with no armor, no weapon, just himself and his strength.
