For example, many Americans were against allowing a mosque to be established near ground zero back in 20ll. Many political leaders were among the crowd disapproved the building of the mosque. They were “rallying against the mosque, calling it a threat to American values,” (Saletan). On the contrary, their rallying against the mosque may be causing a threat to American values because they are challenging a right which has it’s roots laid in deep in the founding of this nation. There reason behind all of these claims are the fears because “Since 9/11, bias toward American Muslims has been fueled by fear or terrorism and ignorance about Islam as a religion and tradition. Well- funded individuals and groups fan this intolerance by spreading distortions and sowing distrust,” (Hall). Stereotypes play a big part in influencing people to worry and fear, which leads to taking undetermined actions, as seen in this case. They forget all the contributions Muslims gave to America such as support during 9/11, military service, and more. In America, “there are about 2 billion Christians, more than 1 billion Muslims, 700+ million Hindus, 350+ million Buddhists, 150 million Atheists, 14 million Jews, etc,” (Slick). America possesses a high amount of religious diversity, which can not be said for many other parts of the world. According to Michelle Vu, a Christian Post reporter, “thousands of people have been killed, displaced or somehow affected by ongoing sectarian violence in Nigeria[...] The Nigerian government has also allowed destruction of churches and mosques to go with impunity.” The people of America are in many ways privileged to receive much to be able to practice their religion and worship on the day they wish. They are allowed to go to build up different church and visit various denominations. As shown before, there are still problems needed to be fixed, but there is time to repair them yet.
