Many people know about the Holocaust, but do they know about all the refugees in the Holocaust. Knowing a well known Refugee, and whether they were successful at surviving the Holocaust, and where they went to escape will give us some insight into their lives.
Jews were forced to live in Ghettos. Ghettos are specific areas of the city that Jews were forced to stay during the Holocaust. They stayed in the Ghettos for a long time usually. After that they got sent to death or concentration camps. In concentration camps they worked for them and in death camps they got killed (“11”) and (Lefkovitz).
Even if some of the countries to accepted them to emigrate to their countries. It was hard even though they could because the Germans usually had laws that would not let them go. It was really bad when the war actually started. …show more content…
Some refugees got deported, and then killed. They a lot of the time got deported in countries that got conquered. More than 340,000 Jewish refugees emigrated from Germany to Austria. That is a lot of people (“Refugees”).
Where jewish refugees successful? I think some refugees were successful. There was many restrictions to stop them though. Both from Germany and the other countries. The countries could only take in a certain number of jews, so many could not leave. Germany also got really hard to leave especially when the war started. Therefore it was very hard for the refugees to escape Germany (“Refugees”).
Neutral Sweden provided sanctuary in 1940 for some Norwegian Jews, and in 1943 for the entire Danish Jewish community. The escape of 7,000 Danish Jews was organized by The Danish Resistance Organization. Portugal permitted thousands of Jews to reach the port of Lisbon. Many organizations such as American and French Jewish organizations helped the refugees. That shows that there was lots of people trying to help, but still it was a very bad time
