Reflective Paper As Benjamin Franklin said “Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” Most people won’t do something worth writing about in their lifetime but almost everyone can write something worth reading if they actually tried to. Writing is a key concept to life. You will always have to write no matter where your career is headed further in life. Going into this class I thought that I was a pretty good writer already and that I would pass through this class with flying colors. I was wrong. This class has helped me become a better writer in so many ways. I have grown so much from what I learned last year. I had no idea writing required so much until this class. My writing skills have grown a lot in the illustration essay, the process analysis essay, and the research paper. First off, I think that the illustration essay about altering public space was one of my favorite ones. It was one of the first big papers we did in this class. I like the papers where you don’t have to do any research or anything you can just talk about experiences and things that have happened in your lifetime. That is what I am best at. I like talking about things that I know something about and don’t have to take words from other people and include them in my paper. It got me off to a good start to the semester. I actually enjoyed writing it. It was on how not to lose weight. I had fun writing that one. I had to come up with some good ideas on that one. You always hear people talk about how they want to lose weight, so I thought that I would come at them with how not to do that because our assignment was how not to do something. All of those steps came pretty easy to me. I enjoy making up stuff like that. I had never really written an anti process essay before it was pretty cool. I had to learn how to write it from the book and the sections on the process

Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. Surviving English Comp 1 Writing Class Writing is one thing I hate the most. It was hard to write an essay for the first time because I did not have the knowledge or concept of this writing style. Before this class, I thought I knew what writing was all about by expressing my thoughts, ideas and feeling. I know now that I had the wrong concept on how to write. I can express my thoughts, ideas and feeling, but if I put them in the wrong contents it does not lead the reader to the point of the essay.…

Before this class, there are some writing elements that I had not considered using before. One of them being the audience. I never reflected upon the audience’s perspective. This helped me realize that for some instances, I do not give enough detail or I am too broad. Making a clear argument is important to an individual’s paper, and I learned that this can be done with checking to make sure the evidence as well as my explanation makes sense.…

Reflection is to revise, to rethink and to take a step back and make sure something is at your best preference. This term is one that I always knew existed, but didn’t apply it to my own work or to my own life. However, now that I know exactly where to apply it, I realize it doesn’t have to be only in education. It could be used in education, in one’s career and life says Sandra L. Giles. It’s interesting because I know exactly what it is, yet I never found the urge to actually apply it.…

I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently.
