Racism is in the similar realm as prejudice, both have parallel yet unlike qualities. We can’t really be racist towards tacos, or coffee brands, however, we can definitely be prejudice. We can always favor one type to another for no other motive why, but just because of personal taste. This creates prejudice a learned behavior, mainly grounded on what we feel, believe, know, value or think about certain things. Lets assume, for example, your mother always used Tide wash liquid. You now favor, prefer and only use Tide wash liquid. Many often associate profiling with racism, however, it doesn’t have to be, and often isn’t, racially interested. The attire you wear, the automobile that your drive, the way you speak, tattoos, piercings, logos on your attire and hairstyles are all legitimate reasons other people might profile you by; these thoughts and ideas are all founded upon prejudice. A person has been told or decided that someone with their pants sagging must be an affiliated gang member, a woman with short hair must be lesbian, someone wearing all black is Emo or suicidal and tattoos advocate or scream criminal.
