To begin with, Racism is unfair stereotyping of people based on their skin color which cause people to react differently. Racism is a poisonous plague that has integrated itself into our societies and affects us all. “Racism is the cumulative history of all those thoughts and acts. They add up to a pattern in which people of color are routinely and systematically treated differently than white people”(Sharon Watkins). This goes to prove that racism started a long time ago and has now evolved into something we do automatically just by looking at someone or hearing about someone. Sexism between men and women define roles in the workplace and in general. Women face many obstacles that act as a blockades to their opportunities. Women are taught from a young age to comply with men and conform to the norms. Because our gender has defined that we are not capable of anything else. We aren't encouraged to continue our education or career goals the same way men are because we are supposed to stay home to take care of the children”(Thorne). This goes to show that the divide between the genders is big enough to impede their want to pursue more in life. If women do succeed in breaking these barriers, they still are not treated the same as men and they are not often viewed as equivalent to men even if they facts prove they are equal. On the other hand, sexism does exist for men although it does not seem like it. Men are taught these beliefs that the should be “masculine, show no fear, and to suppress any emotions” as it may be viewed as weak or inadequate(Thorne). Men grow up being taught ways to portray themselves without actually knowing what they actually mean. Men and women are expected to fill these roles under a “perfect stereotype” in which society divides the genders based on the social issue of sexism. Sexism is still a very big issue today and everyone is at fault for this. Nearly everyone experiences some form of sexism in their life
