The Racist Americans The world as we know it right now is made up of many different races and different kinds of people. Each race has its own backstory, some have their own religion, practices, civilizations, and many other unique things. Humankind has managed to invent, survive, and prosper to this point that we are at right now. The one thing that has stuck around throughout the centuries is racism. In the eyes of someone who doesn’t experience racism, I can say that it has dulled since the 1800’s and 1900’s. However, racism is still alive and well in our United States. One day, though, I believe that this world can overcome the hatred, we can come to terms with our differences, and accept people for who they are. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, you see an extensive amount of racism laced in its paragraphs. In today's society you can see the extreme racism from the deep south and see the racism for the new Syrian refugees. This world is a corrupt place, but in my heart I know that someday we will be able to change the way we see people. A very important example of racism in TKM, …show more content…
Right after Bob Ewell spits in Atticus’ face, he calls him a "nigger-lovin' bastard.” People around town also start calling him that, not directly to his face of course. Cecil Jacobs feels the need to say this horrible line to Scout, "My folks said your daddy was a disgrace an' that nigger oughta hang from the water tank"(Lee chapter 9). When I was younger my mom taught me that the first thought to come in your head is what society tells you to say and the second thought is what you actually feel. I feel like someday this world can follow the second thought, not the

The people of Maycomb are significantly affected by racism and prejudice. Although there are many examples of this present throughout the text, I will be highlighting three of them; the first one being the Tom Robinson’s case. Another example of this is the bullying Jem and Scout receive as a result of Atticus defending Tom Robinson in court. The last example I’m going to share is the town's disapproval of Mr. Dolphus Raymond’s interracial relationship. All of these examples support my thesis of racism and prejudice being extraordinarily present in maycomb.…

In this day and age prejudice is not as normal as it was in the 1900's. In the mid 1900's prejudice was exceptionally normal, and a large portion of the white Americans were supremacist to the Minorities. In spite of the fact that bigotry was basic in the 1900's it is currently disliked and not extremely normal by any stretch of the imagination. Minorities are currently not dismisses in this day and age, and are acknowledged like whatever other individual.…

The first character affected by prejudices is Arthur Radley, otherwise known as Boo Radley. Boo was known around Maycomb by a story of him stabbing his father in the leg with a pair of scissors while they were scrapbooking, or so it was rumored. This story was up in the air about his intentions behind the stab and also the context was unknown and people assumed the worst because thats what people do. Humans typically love to over exaggerate stories and this is what happened with Boo Radley by the citizens of Maycomb, his story was over exaggerated and Boo was dehumanized. The kids of Maycomb would talk about Boo Radley like he was a fictional character rather than their neighbor.…

Recently, there have been protests at the University of Missouri about how the school had handled racial incidents, which resulted in the resignation of the university's president. Many people think that racial incidents don't occur today, but that isn't true. The reason racial incidents still occur today is because of prejudice. Prejudice is when people judge others when they only know a little or nothing about that person. People should know another person enough before judging them.…

America's current battle with racism is an unfortunate example of when history "repeats itself." The issues regarding racial inequality were confronted in the Civil War, then again during the Reconstruction era. Despite the efforts of both these events, racial conflicts still exist today. The Civil war is taught in schools to be the conflict that ended with the abolishment of slavery. While this marked a turning point in American history, racist belief systems did not disappear.…

This shows that everyone can be affected by racism, but we should learn to not listen to what others say. Also, it shows how it is used in a discriminatory way because he says Atticus is nothing, but a “nigger-lover”. This shows that society, not only ignores racism, but accepts it.…

Racism stands for more than one thing. In this case Harper Lee expresses that the theme in “ To Kill A MocKingbird” is you should never judge or mistreat someone because of their skin color. In this book a black man was found guilty for raping a white women when he was clearly innocent, in addition he was also shot 17 times because he was black. In some cases shooting someone 17 times and is unarmed is called overkill. So, therefore, racism is still a big thing in the U.S. today Tom Robinson, an African American man found guilty for a crime he didn’t commit such as raping a white women, whose name is Mayella.…
